Meteor & Shadow  (Eindhoven, 2012)

 

The proposal involves a pedestrian and bicycle tunnel that passes underneath the railway tracks. The space evokes insecurity to its users even if it is lit all day long. The tunnel runs along the Dommel river and, due to its resonance and the trains passing above, it comprises an eery soundscape. Going the other way round, the proposal suggests conjuring darkness through embracing it. The combination of minimal artificial lighting and replacement of the existing tiles on the walls with a reflective material, launches a play between silhouettes, nature, human movement, paths of light and shadow.
